NBA All-Star celebrity scene wrap-up
Orlando Sentinel reported
Orlando was no Borlando this weekend as the city was swarmed by NBA All-Star VIP events and parties, seen and — mostly unseen.
Sure, this city has a reputation for attracting tourists from around the globe to frequent the theme parks and busy convention goers clog up International Drive. But Orlando entered the celebrity universe this weekend as entertainers such as Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown and Kevin Hart were randomly spotted around town.
If you didn't want to spend $100 to party like a rock-star or time to fight the maddening traffic at the Mall at Millenia this weekend, don't worry. I've got you covered with my celebrity nuggets from the 2012 NBA All-Star weekend.
TNT analyst Charles Barkley can't bust a move on the court, but showed he's still quite capable of handling his own on the dance floor. Barkley made an appearance at the party for TNT analyst Kenny Smith on Friday night at the Ballroom at Church Street. Also making an appearance as an impromptu Emcee was 90s hip hop star Kid of Kid N Play. Christopher Reid "kid" was in Orlando visiting his father, who moved here seven years ago.
•Kayla Brianna, daughter of Kenny Smith, gave her first national performance on the nationally syndicated Orlando-based morning program "The Daily Buzz."
•Bloomingdale's at the Mall at Millenia had a private fashion show hosted by former Orlando Magic forward Matt Barnes and his partner, VH1 Basketball Wives star Gloria Govan.
•Speaking of basketball wives…Cookie Johnson, wife of Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson, made an appearance at the Mall at Millenia's Neiman Marcus store Saturday morning to promote her new line of jeans targeted toward curvier women. I asked Johnson about her take on the "Basketball Wives" franchise to which she responded, "it's sad."
